Few of us will ever live or work in the White House. Becoming the President is difficult. I’ve never personally tried, but I’m sure it is not easy. However, decorating like the tv show The West Wing, isn’t difficult to do on a budget. The West Wing would make the perfect living room. This style is great for someone who loves very elegant decor, and this can easily be achieved on a budget.5. Dark Wood: Nothing says wealth like dark wood. Well nothing says wealth like a pile of cash on a coffee table, but a rich dark wood implies that. Mahogony, or cherry are nice colors to use because it brings a hint of the color red into the room. So even if the wood is dark it still adds warmth. Try it on a desk or coffee table. This is a great bargain, 3 cherry nesting tables for only $89.99, marked down from $163.99. The Imperial style of these tables is a great compliment to the West Wing style. Just click on the picture for more information.

4. Walls: The walls in West Wing have a very thick stucco texture. You can simulate that very inexpensively with some joint compound and the instructions listed here. Orange walls and crisp white trim add a sense of youth and fun to the West Wing. Orange might not be the obvious choice, but it compliments the rich wood tones and leathers and keeps the room from looking too stuffy.
3. Furniture: To copy the West Wing furniture, leather furniture is perfect. Overstuffed club chairs, and sofas with a sleek leather finish will add comfort to this living room. If you can’t afford to buy new furniture, try adding a long leather bench or ottoman. This club chair and ottoman is only $500 for both, click on the picture for more information.

2. Accessories: Keep the accessories small and tasteful. Petite figurines and statues do not detract from the larger more expensive pieces of furniture, and also give the air that they might be antiques and very expensive. Crystal vases, lamps, and candy dishes would great on a fireplace mantle.
1. Art: Also use smaller pieces of art in gold frames. You can pick up a lot of different frames at garage sales and then gold leaf or spray paint them gold. Use pictures from calendars or postcards of landscapes or vintage floral prints. The art should be in muted creams, blacks, browns, and dark blues. This will give a nice contrast againt the orange walls, and add an expensive flair.
To recap, being the President is hard, decorating like The West Wing isn’t.

To achieve Dharma and Greg’s style is easy and inexpensive. Use crafts, arts, tapestries. This fun, energetic look is great for a kitchen. For the Dharma and Greg kitchen you will need:1. Painted cabinets: Try a two tone effect, white doors with aqua trim. Or white upper cabinets and aqua lower cabinets.
2. Art: Try making a collage, or hanging up postcards from your travels. Hang frames on your cabinets. Turn your walls into art by doing a yellow color wash to imitate the yellow stucco that Dharma and Greg have.
3. Magnets: Cover your entire fridge with them. It’s a great alternative if you don’t like your fridge. I have made a few set of marble magnets. You can see the idea by clicking here. Basically you just get a bag of those flat clear pebbles that you find at dollar stores. Then you pick out a picture or word you like and glue it to the back and attach a magnet. These set of quote magnets are only $14.95 marked down from $19.95. Click on the picture for more information.

4. Accessories: Dharma & Greg have a Mona Lisa curtain hanging in their doorway. If you can’t find this try a bead curtain. This one is a great deal at only $7.95.

Wow, that was an awfully long title. I deserve a medal. I recently had a wedding to attend and couldn’t find a gift. I wanted to give them something memorable that they could have for years and years and not get tired of. I usually give some nice candlesticks for wedding presents. When I hit the stores I could only find stained glass unicorn heads and the like. Just a lot of pieces that the couple would have to hide until I came over to visit and they would need to drag that stained glass unicorn head out of the closet. To make things even more difficult the couple had a modern/funky style when I usually give crystal or silver plated candlesticks. These glass mosaic and iron candle holders would have been perfect. You get a set of three for, wait for it, wait for it, only $7.97. They have retail value of $29.99, and the candlesticks used to be $16, and now they are less than $8. These would be great to have in a gift closet when you need a present very quickly. Use them in your own home on a sideboard or dining table to add a funky/rustic/exotic air. I don’t know if that is an actual decorating term, but it should be. Just click on the picture for more information.
