Ok, I may be eternally mocked for stating the obvious, but I’m curious how many people know how to tell the salt and pepper shakers apart. I was with some friends and noticed the boy pouring some salt in his hand while he said that he was just checking to make sure he got the right one. I told him that the salt shaker always has more holes in it because people want more salt than pepper. Of the entire group of college educated people, I was the only person who had heard this. So what do you think? Is this common knowledge or not? How else do you tell the salt & pepper shakes apart? Check out other great “Works-for-me-Wednesday” Tips at Rocks in my Dryer.

Well, it’s supposed to be that way. But now that people are cutting back on salt, I’d still check. Frankly, they ought to put a P and an S on the darn things! (Or, as I prefer, make them with clear glass!)

As a general rule that is true. But you never know if you are at a person’s house who like pepper a lot more than salt and reverses them =)) But yes, that is a great general rule.

That is exactly why I prefer a CLEAR salt and pepper shaker. It makes things crystal clear…literally!! Thank you though- I didn’t know that!

I use the tupperware clear ones, but I had heard of that before.

I had a set (that I’ve never used) of Boyd’s Bears s&p, it’s a bride and groom, and the bride is salt, the groom is pepper. I love that! But I use clear ones for the table, and have a mixed container w/ other spices that I use w/ cooking to only handle one thing instead of several things of salt/pepper/other stuff (did that make sense at all?)

I knew that but, what a great tip! Sometimes the most obvious things to us are life changing for other people

Well, I am surprised someone posted this. I thought I was the only weird person in the world. However…..I learned it the other way around. Salt pours faster so you put it in the holder with the fewer holes.
Hmmm, I wonder if the etiquette gal, whatsherface, knows the answer to this. I am just gonna hafta google it. teeeheheee

I was curious so I googled it and couldn’t find an answer. However, it is apparently proper etiquette when asked for the Salt to pass both the Salt & Pepper. I guess the etiquette people don’t know either so we have to pass both!
