Turn your home into a castle on a budget

Last night’s challenge on HGTV’s “Design Star” was to design a room around a randomly chosen color. Alice’s color was blue, Temple’s was yellow, David got red, & Tim got green. Temple was finally sent home, even though she had some of the best space planning organization.  I liked her room, but bottom line, I just wouldn’t watch a show she was hosting.  Over & over the judges said that everyone interpreted the color too “literally”. What were they supposed to do, say my color was yellow so I painted the walls pink. Then I thought about it….maybe. Here’s what I would have done.

If I had gotten a color I wasn’t too thrilled about like Temple was with yellow I would have interpreted it as a joke. I would have taken a sunburst mirror, lemons in a fruit bowl, whatever is typically yellow, & painted them all pink. I would have made sure the roomy had a bright sunny feeling, but not any yellow.

I don’t like most shades of blue, so for Alice’s room I would have painted the walls brown, and kept everything very neutral. Then I would have put one large blue item in the center of the room, like a large bowl on a coffee table. Then the blue would have really popped and made a statement without being too overwhelming.

I probably would’ve gotten sent home for either of my ideas, but I don’t want to host my own show on HGTV anyways. My least favorite room was David’s. I thought that the bed should’ve have been on the other side and didn’t understand the point of building a cubicle around your couch & TV. What do you think, who should have gone home last night? How would you have interpreted the challenge?
