This is my one & only baking tip so any ohhh’s & ahhh’s would be greatly appreciated. I only bake ummm never, so when I open up the brown sugar I end up thinking “Why didn’t we use this to patch the foundation of the house?”. If you put a piece of bread in with your brown sugar, it keeps the sugar light & fluffy (well as light & fluffy as brown sugar can be) & the bread turns hard. I don’ t know how or why this works, it’s just magic. Say it with me now… ohhh ahhh Works for me!

I stumbled upon this tip somewhere about 5 years ago, maybe more, and I’ve been using it since then! Did you know it works for cookies that have started getting too hard as well? Great tip! =)

I’ve heard of this. Putting in an apple slice also works great!

First, just wanted to tell you that I love your blog. Second, very, very smart! There is nothing like rock hard brown sugar to deter one from doing their baking!
We are up finally!

I discovered that some time back, and it really does work great. I also read where you could put it in the microwave for a few seconds, but it got too hot and had a bit of a scorched taste.

Great tip, I always keep a saltine in the sugar dispenser (the kind I use at the breakfast table) and that works well for that purpose but I’ll have to try the bread. It’ll be great, it’ll confuse my husband if he sees it.
