Stay Warm

I live in Utah & it’s been a very cold fall/winter, but it’s Utah, that is pretty much par for the course.  However, I have never adapted to this, I am always cold.  I wear my coat inside, sometimes I even wear my scarf & gloves. While my coat is cute, it’s not the fashion statement that I was looking for. Frankly, I’m just sick of being cold for over half of the year. That’s why I’ve been looking at wall heaters, there is so much more to choose from than just the basic space heater. They actually have products that will keep your house warm & reduce your heating costs.  I really love the new gas & electric fireplaces.  I think that every room should have a fireplace & now they can. There’s no excuse for me to be so cold anymore.

The truth about color

One of the biggest ways to change a room for the least amount of money is color.  However, there is so much conflicting advice, dark cools make a space look smaller, no they make it look bigger.  So I decided to start my own series on color, where I would use certain colors, where I would avoid them, & what they mean to me. Hopefully this will put the matter to rest once & for all because I’m Sarakastic, & as such, I am always right.  Please leave your comments letting me know if you agree or disagree with me & how you feel about certain colors.

Always be on vacation

If you are like me, you are already thinking about retirement. It makes the work week much easier if I have a plan & am working towards something, even if it is years away. I love decorating, I think it can work wonders. However, I still believe in the old adage, location, location, location. You can change the way your house looks, but it’s very difficult to change where your house is.

This is why it’s so cool to live on a golf course in a resort town. It’s like you are always on vacation. You have an amazing backyard that you never have to take care of. There are so many amazing properties to choose from. Who knew that there are so many beautiful places to live? Conceivably then, you could move to one of these amazing properties without changing your life too much, you’d still be in your state, you’d just have more nourishment for the soul. Plus, it’s a must if you love to golf, you can just step outside & already be at the golf course. I don’t golf, but I worked at a golf course one summer, & I always loved looking at the greens. It’s very peaceful & soothing, & maintenance free on the homeowners part. Plus decorating a lot easier, because the views take care of most everything. Maybe I won’t wait for retirement.

Memory Jar

Memory JarI had lots of broken pieces of my grandmother’s jewelry. I needed a jar to store money in so I just glued them all to the jar & then filled in the gaps with beads & craft marbles. I even used watch faces, old locks, & door hinges. It is a great accessory now, my grandma’s old jewelry gets noticed. She would’ve loved this because she was a master at never throwing anything out, & always repurposing things. Plus, if it is sitting in the window it looks like stained glass. It is unique, & makes me smile whenever I look at it.

Dreams

Yesterday I started to wonder if I had finally arrived. If I have roommates, it wouldn’t be that much a stretch for me to buy a townhouse, condo, or apartment. Granted, it won’t be my dream NYC apartment, which costs about 4 million. I’ll have to save up a little while longer for that one.

Owning a place is just a rite of passage. I feel so scared & grown up all at the same time. I’ve been working towards this goal for my whole life & it would be a shame not to take advantage of it. It’s fun to just look at all the apartments & just dream for now. I have so much to learn, & so much to save, but it’s fun to just be able to dream for awhile, even if it doesn’t work out.
