The 90’s green monster update

The main challenge of updating the 1990′s green monster room is to neutralize while adding warmth.  This can be done in the following ways:

1.  The biggest challenge will be the forest green or maroon carpet.  Honestly, if you are willing to invest money into this makeover, this is the one thing to change, put down new carpet, or wood floors. I have this in my home & my first instinct was to paint the walls green to match this.  It was just too much of a good thing, & there was no way to tastefully match the color, it always clashed.  Then I painted the walls brown, & the carpet just seemed to disappear. Put a rug down, this can match your new wall color, instead of trying to match the green.

2.  The sponge painting also has to go. This can be done inexpensively if the paint hasn’t left too much texture. I really like putting browns in the room if a lot of forest green will be staying.  This makes the room feel like nature.  Use a warm color to make the room feel more welcoming.

2.  Coffee tables, whether they are made out of pine, or wood, have seen their day.  You can paint these a chocolate brown, or chuck them all together & replace them with inexpensive ottomans.  You could even put foam & fabric on top of your existing coffee table & make a cool bench/ottoman.

4.  Bring in new accessories.  Ditch the sunflowers that were so prevalent in this time. Change the square, wooden handles to something made out of medal. Cover the green sofa with a luxurious throw.

It sounds like a lot of work, but most of the stuff can be reused, so it shouldn’t be too expensive to update the green monster.
