If you are a girl, the color pink seems to have a lot of significance. It has traditionally been used as the color associated with baby girls. Then, when I was a little older I started playing with Barbie, who had a pink car, only pink clothes, & even a pink house. Then when I was a little older than that, pink was the color of breast cancer awareness ribbons. Then, when I was in college, a few people were down on pink for being stereotypical & trying to put women in their place. In my life after college, I have heard pink described as a color for powerful women. I don’t know of any other color with this many mixed messages. I do like to use it in decorating though, it is a very soft, relaxing color that occurs often in nature. Pink doesn’t necessarily have to be "girly". If you like the color, find a way to use it. I try to stay away from pink floral fabric, but might go for a bold modern brown & pink stripe.Or, you can bring in a vase of very light pink cherry blossoms. Try pairing pink with a brown or gray to give it a nice balance, & so the color doesn’t come off as too feminine.
