Yesterday, I posted about how I think that the modern style will someday be seen as cold. This is unfortunate because it is one of the most expensive styles that I have seen. There are ways to put together a room which will save you money & make it into a classic style that will last for years to come.
1. Prioritize. Do you really need/want granite countertops & stainless steel appliances? Is that really you? Would you love it even if it wasn’t a trend & everyone hated stainless steel? Have you seen stainless steel appliances & granite countertops in use? How do they hold up? If you do love it, & can afford it, then by all means go for it. If not, think outside the box & explore your options.
2. Accessories. Add in a mod 60′s tomato red lamp or some funky art work. This will ground the room & keep it from feeling like you just walked into page 72 of the Sears catalog.
3. Soften modern lines with a nice fuzzy throw that will add warmth to the room.
I think the main thing with this style, because it is so trendy is to make sure you really love it. Do you really think that sink is a piece of art? Will you love it for decades? Ok then, it’s yours. Just balance it out both budget & design wise with things that can be easily changed according to the next trend.
