This is another easy headboard idea. I think that every bedroom should have a headboard, & this one is practically free. All you have to do is paint a big square in a contrasting color over your bed. This is a faux headboard, if you want to get a little crafty you can stencil a pattern over it to make it look more like fabric. For a more contemporary look try overlapping squares in different colors.
This will create a focal point in the room, plus act as a head board & art all at the same time. I know that a lot of people will think, but I can’t paint, I’m not an artist. I think most of these people have never tried & surely everyone can paint a square with the help of a ruler & some painters tape, so try it, you’ll like it.

I remember back in the day when we only had one TV in our whole house, & it was kept in the TV room. Now it seems like people are putting TV’s in every room, even their kitchen & bathrooms. An easy way to update any room is to get new plasma tvs. If it’s a really nice model, it’s something that everyone will gravitate towards so much that they probably won’t even notice the way that your room is decorated, as long as there is a comfortable place to sit. Sad, but true. This is a very important & very expensive purchase, you’ll probably look at the TV more than anything else in the room so it makes sense to make it an investment piece.
This can be difficult for me because while I can pick out a TV armoire like it’s no one’s business, TV’s all basically look the same to me so they are out of the realm of my expertise. That’s why this new site called Testfreaks is so cool. It will be up & running soon & it will be full of reviews all different kinds of electronics. This means I will be able to get information from all over the world so I can easily find the best TV & get down to the fun part of decorating. A good TV is essential because now every room is a TV room.

Well, I’ve been through all the colors that I can think of & learned a lot about them & how to use them in decorating. I think the most important lesson I learned that there is a place for each & every color in the home. For instance, I love warm colors, so I have always envision the walls to be reds, oranges, & yellows. However, I just can’t picture those colors in a bathroom because to me the cooler colors such as lavender & blue seem much cleaner, & therefore more suited to a bathroom. Yes, I would even consider purple, if it was done correctly. It just takes finding a shade that you love & pairing it with complimentary shades, & you can make any color work in any room. Plus, I learned that another name for brown is deep orange which has to be the coolest discovery in modern times.

It’s the American dream to own your own home, well it surpasses America, I think it is something everyone wants. I see a lot of people, (like everyone on HGTV), who thinks that they need granite countertops & hardwood floors, even if it’s just their first house. Then they go out & fill all the rooms with brand new furniture to match the granite countertops & hardwood floors. Our parents & grandparents use to have to save their whole lives to get their dream houses, but we just seem to get in trouble with credit.
There’s a term in real estate called house rich & cash poor. So many homeowners end up in this situation because they go for their dream house right off the bat, or they underestimate how much all the expenses that come along with owning a home will be. It’s ironic because if you don’t explore your options you may end up losing the house & furniture that you have worked so hard for & dreamed of for so long.

I once heard that green is nature’s neutral. Green is a very popular color in decorating & has played a role in the colors of every decade.
1970′s: Pea Green
1980′s: Pale Green
1990′s: Forest Green
2000′s: Sage Green
It has also played a role in several other decades, but I wasn’t alive yet, so I don’t really know what green they were using in decorating. Learn from the mistakes made in the 90′s with the green carpets & sofas & telephones. Like any color, use it sparingly or as a wall color with things you can change. Keep the big pieces, like furniture & flooring, neutral so you can easily & inexpensively change your room. Green is a great starter color because it’s easy on the eyes. This means it will help you get used to having walls other than white.
