New trend

Blinds have become a huge trend in decorating, especially Roman Blinds or Roman Shades. I think this is because blinds give privacy, without being overwhelming. Blinds have a clean, modern look. For this reason, they will last for years & years without becoming outdated like some window treatments. Another reason for their popularity is because there are so many cute sheer curtains out there that are so inexpensive. They make a window look light & airy, however people still want privacy, so it’s natural to still use blinds under these sheer curtains.

Blinds are also a great option if your house has really great moldings around the window & you don’t want to cover them up. Terrys Fabrics has a great selection at affordable prices. I was shocked at how stylish & inexpensive their roller blinds are. Blinds sure have come a long way in the past few years. Blinds are the new must have window treatment, so whether you go for wooden blinds, bamboo blinds, or a fabric roman blind you will be able to find something that suits your style.

The 2000’s recap

In the 2000′s we watched a lot of decorating shows, & learned how to DIY.  We started calling rooms spaces, & talking about whether they where "warm" or "cold". However, we were DIY-ing someone else’s style, putting a lot of money into things to keep up with the Jones’.  I think we will be remembered as the generation who used too much color.  It was everywhere, the rooms are saturated with it & there was nowhere for the eye to rest.  I think that electric & gas fireplaces will be laughed at someday.  However, I think the most important thing is to find what you truly love, & spend your money there, whether or not it is a fad.  This will really make the space your own. Then it is much less likely to be considered dated.

Allergy Help

I have many problems, but allergies aren’t one of them, knock on wood. I’ve probably doomed myself with that statement. It’s interesting to watch my families & friends develop sudden allergies to trees or pollen, when they’ve spent their entire lives allergy free. I don’t know why that happens, just that it causes a lot of problems. I’ve seen people go to drastic measures to avoid their allergies, even to the point of considering moving away to a state that doesn’t have the offensive allergen. Others have to vacuum everyday, or clean obsessively, or even have special flooring put in their homes.

What happens then when it turns out that you are allergic to your pet? I just read about an animal shampoo that not only protects against fleas & ticks, but also removes animal dander & odors to reduce the pet owners allergies. It doesn’t have any dye or ammoniates because it’s made from plant & root extracts & is even biodegradable. It’s totally safe for pet & home, which makes life better for you & your furbaby!

Everyone’s favorite color

It’s often rumored that blue is the most popular favorite color on the entire planet.  It makes sense then that if you use blue in decorating, a lot of people will like it & be able to relate to it.  Blue summons up feelings of wide open spaces with blue skies, or maybe the ocean.  It is on the cool side of the color wheel.  As such, if paired with other cool colors, it will look very pristine.  I think this is the perfect color for any bathroom, because it always looks fresh & clean. Pairing it with a brown, which we learned is a deep orange, is a complimentary color scheme. Blue is often associated with depression (I’ll have a blue Christmas, Blue Moon, The artists’ blue period). I think my least favorite paint color is baby blue. To avoid this, I like to use the color blue in cheery ways, such as cobalt blue plates on the wall, or blue bells in a floral arrangement.

Cleaning Tips

I’m not a big fan of household chores, but it comes with being a “grown up” & wanting to have a nice home. I’m always looking for ways to make the housekeeping process easier & more fun. Today, I found the best housekeeping tip ever, have a celebrity do it.

You heard me right. The stars of “As the World Turns” have agreed to a contest where Austin Peck & Terri Columbino (Otherwise known as Brad & Katie), will come to your house & do your least favorite chore. You will also receive $5,000 & get to spend the day with them. It’s free, all you have to do is Click here to enter. You just have to write 75 words or less about why Brad & Katie should come & clean your house. I don’t know what chore I would ask them to do, maybe carry the $5,000 into the house. They are really good sports for agreeing to do this. I always think that celebrities have housekeepers, so it’s amazing that htey are willing to do the chore of your choosing. It’s the easiest way to clean house ever.
