Living in art

So many of the decorating shows on TV talk about finding your inspiration from places that you’ve traveled. However what if you’ve never been anywhere?  What if you don’t have a really cool hobby like an interest in Far East cuisine? What are you supposed to do then? A good solution is to find a piece of art work that you love and work from there. The art will dictate the colors of your room as well as the theme and overall mood. You can virtually make your house look like you walked into a painting. This reminds me of one of my favorite episodes of  "Gilmore Girls" where the town of Stars Hallow puts on the festival of living art. Ever since I saw that I have wanted to be part of a painting. This probably isn’t possible without the help of a really good makeup artist. However I would love to at least live in a space that is inspired by painting.

No more excuses

Working in the garden has to be some of the hardest work that’s out there. (Which is why I avoid it at all costs). There are little things that seem difficult, that just discourage me from working out in the garden. The little things that make the job not fun. For instance, when all the work is done though, I want a pleasant place to relax & let my back recuperate from all that hard work. One of the things I hate is seeing that the garden hose still laying out on the lawn, a complete mess. It’s like looking at tangled up Christmas tree lights. I’m too tired to go & fix it, so I just sit there & glare at it for marring my landscape. Now there is a garden hose reel that is run on the power of water that will take care of all that. You don’t even have to crank it. Finally I can get my garden looking the way I want it to. I don’t have any excuse not too anymore.

Coolest Thing Ever

I think that one of the coolest home accessories has to be a knight in shining armor. There’s just something so regal and a little bit spooky about it. I’ve always wanted to walk into a house and  see a big knight in shining armor in the entryway, so far it’s just never happened to me. I think this accessory works well  with all kinds of different styles. It can either be a medieval theme or just a quirky piece that shows your sense of humor . Hey if I can’t have a real knight in shining armor to whisk me away, I mine as well have the decor in my house.

As usual

My Mom was right, as usual. Of course she’s right, it’s part of being a mom. When I was a little kid, I never cleaned up my room, I said the mess didn’t bother me. She said that it took just as much as time to throw clothes in the laundry as it did to throw clothes on the floor. I just never “got it”. I just thought that I would always be messy.

Then I entered college & all my roommates were messy & it was just too messy. It really did effect me negatively. So I changed my habits to become a mild neat freak. The only downside of this is that I can’t tolerate most messes & worry about things like what if my dog gets fleas & brings them into my clean house? I think the key to this is to be informed, even before it happens. For instance, you can get tips on how to keep your dog from getting fleas at the dog park. Mom was right, it really isn’t hard to keep a clean house, we just need information.

My Favorite TV Decorator Ever

There are many people who have vied for this spot, such as Laurie from Trading Spaces, or Lisa what’s her name from "Designed to Sell". I just couldn’t bring myself to put Lisa what’s her name on a trophy.  I think that my all time favorite from the good old talking box is Nate Berkus.  Not only is he good looking, but he has great tips. He produces amazing rooms, although he usually has an insanely high budget to work with.  I just think that he really understands that people need to be surrounded by beauty.  He also understands that beauty is different to every person & every home.  He doesn’t just recreate the same room over & over.  Still, he can make a room very practical & work for everyday life. Besides, Oprah likes him & that’s good enough for me.Who is your favorite TV Decorator?
