Decorating Princess

It’s garage sale time which means that I have to wake up early every Saturday to try to find furniture & accessories for my house. This also means that it’s time to think about garage sale driving. The darting from post to post, stopping in mid traffic to try & see if the neon poster board says 200 E or 800 E. This is pretty unsafe. If I’m not the dangerous garage sale driver, then I’m usually behind one, extremely nervous about the crazy way they are driving. Here are some reasons that it is better shop in free classifieds.

• No early Saturday mornings. You can look through them whenever you like.
• No crazy garage sale driving.
• No impulse buying. Often our judgment isn’t the best early on a Saturday morning & we end up buying junk. With classifieds you have time to look through them & decide what you really want.
• “It’s My Market” has lots of extras like weather reports, dating services, blogs, & even movie listings. I’d like to see a garage sale do that.

You can find listings that are local to your area if you live in Great Britain, so take a look, & then sleep in this Saturday morning.

I have the scary introduction music, well the title that acts like music, because I think decorating the nursery is often overlooked.  Yes, most parents decorate it, but they just give it a generic theme like blue or pink. This room is one of the most important rooms to decorate of all time because it’s basically their baby’s first introduction to the world and it’s important to make a good first impression.

I know that this may seem serious but decorating nursery should be fun,  & it shouldn’t spend of all the the baby’s college education fund just in order to decorate it. A good nursery should have all of the pieces of furniture that may be necessary & not a lot of clutter.  There should also be plenty of floor space for when baby learns how to crawl. I will try to share unique design ideas that I have that will hopefully create a happy space for babies to grow up in, please share any ideas of your own.

To me, it seems like if you go to most stores that sell baby items there will be three or four choices for the nursery. If you don’t fit into one of those choices then you might feel like you don’t have many options. Honestly I think that most nurseries end up looking exactly the same. This is unfortunate for the following reasons:

• The nursery often won’t fit in with the rest of the style of the house. Yes it is a special room but there should also be some continuity.

• The parents will be spending most of the time in the new nursery. They will be the ones that really notice how it is decorated. So if they don’t like a precious moments theme or pastel colors then they are out of luck.

• All new parents just have to make a guess as to what their child will be like.

• It may be the only time that you will get your husband or significant other to paint the walls, so make sure it’s a color that you can all live with for a very long time.

It’s important to think outside the box, or the idea of a nursery in a bag & come up with a space that you love & that your baby will love, no pressure, no pressure.  I’ve decided to come up with a few inexpensive nursery themes that are also unique in the next few weeks.  If anyone has any requests for certain themes, please let me know.

So many of the decorating shows on TV talk about finding your inspiration from places that you’ve traveled. However what if you’ve never been anywhere?  What if you don’t have a really cool hobby like an interest in Far East cuisine? What are you supposed to do then? A good solution is to find a piece of art work that you love and work from there. The art will dictate the colors of your room as well as the theme and overall mood. You can virtually make your house look like you walked into a painting. This reminds me of one of my favorite episodes of  "Gilmore Girls" where the town of Stars Hallow puts on the festival of living art. Ever since I saw that I have wanted to be part of a painting. This probably isn’t possible without the help of a really good makeup artist. However I would love to at least live in a space that is inspired by painting.
