Feng Shui with Sarakastic

fengshui.jpg

I’m not really into Feng Shui, it’s just too many rules for me. I recently met a friend who was very into Feng Shui. They said that they could tell everything about my personality just by looking at the way I arrange furniture. I think I replied with “That’s utter crap”. Here is my version of Feng shui, or why the furniture is arranged the way it is…

Couches are placed so they can best see the TV.

Anything you see in a set of three most likely came from the dollar store, hence why I could afford three of them.

Rugs are usually put on an angle because they never seem to be big enough for the room so I try & fake it.

The bed is pushed up against the wall so that I have room to tae bo. Otherwise I would break a leg.

My desk is not facing the window because the glare form the window would make it so I can’t see my laptop.

I don’t know what that says about my personality. I believe in some aspects of Feng Shui, I’ve heard people say it has changed their lives, but personally, there’s a reason my furniture is arranged the way it is.

It’s a fork not a weapon

fork.jpgIs it just me or have forks gotten a lot sharper lately? I have a sterling silver fork from my Grandmother, it’s called a pickle fork, because it’s sharp & should only be used for stabbing stuff, not eating off of. I was recently looking for new flatware & I noticed that there are tons of really sharp forks out there. They should come with a warning label, that’s just dangerous.

It’s time

I don’t know how many bridal showers I have been to in my lifetime, I’m thinking a lot. I’m almost 25 & not even close to getting married. The point is, I’ve given away a lot of blenders, but I’ve never received one. Many of my friends are older & still single. It’s not a bad life. However, I have had several single friends say “I just want a blender, is that so wrong?”

We have successful careers, good relationships, & are generally happy. We are open to marriage, it just hasn’t happened yet. However, we just tend to wait for the basic necessities like blenders, toasters, & digital audio cables. It’s enough already. I cook a lot, & there are somethings I just shouldn’t have to wait for. Abtelectronics.com has tons of cool electronics & appliances. With their free shipping I can finally afford to buy a blender for myself. It’s time.

The case for orange

orange.jpgOrange always seems to get a bad rep. People say that they don’t like orange, when they have never even tried decorating with it. Orange is my favorite color. I am the only person I know who thinks this way. However, if orange is so bad, why does it always seem to be trendy?

The 70′s: Harvest Gold appliances appeared in kitchens across the country. Orange was so relevant that they made it into an appliance color, they were that sure of it’s popularity. Pink has never really been a refrigerator now has it?

The 80′s: Peach was the must have color.

The Late 90′s: Terracotta

Today: A retro tomato soup orange seems to have come back into play in accessories.

I think people really do like orange, they just don’t know how to use it. I rest my case.

Easy Cabinet Makeover

I love decorating shows that are realistic, such as people trying to makeover their kitchen in a weekend without a lot of money. To me, that is how real DIY is, not a lot of time, not a lot of money. However, there are usually lots of people that work behind the scenes on these shows. They have a team of people that know carpentry & sewing in order to make everything happen.

Well, what’s an average girl to do then? We deserve to have beautiful homes too! Take what you can do & can afford from the TV shows, & make it work for you. For instance, almost every decorating show suggests getting new handles to revamp kitchen cabinets. If you really want a classy, updated look try wood crown moulding on the top of your cabinets, or even around your room.

All Cabinet Parts is the place to go to, they have the coolest cabinet hardware, & even antique looking handles. They even have awesome looking wood corbels, that you could put under the counter. This has become very popular in order to make a kitchen island look like a piece of furniture. It’s an easy & inexpensive update that even I hadn’t thought of. There are lots of great ideas, & inspiration at this site. They really do have everything you would need for kitchen cabinets, even hinges which are often overlooked. Also, they have great prices & a fantastic selection.

We don’t all have the teams, money, & time that goes into your average decorating shows. However, there are still some ideas that you can use.
