I’ll admit it. There are some decorating ideas that I have had, that just haven’t worked. They didn’t become outdated, they were just ugly from the very second that I finished the project. There was no way to fix them. They just were never good ideas to begin with. I don’t have any pictures of these, (sadly). They include:
Sponge painting a forest green paint over a taupe. It looked like mold & took several hours longer to complete than regular painting. I only lived with it for a matter of weeks. This was a few years ago, & the taupe color that I was trying to get rid of is now very in style.
Painting my entire bedroom ceiling to look like a sky. There was just way too much room for clouds, & it looked messy. Again I painted over it, although I left part of it in a small alcove & it still looks lovely.
Stenciling ivy in the dining room. I thought this might balance out the mold looking walls in the sun room. The two greens didn’t match, & the stencil was much too large & not my style to begin with. What can I say? It was the 90′s.
Eventually, I learned that less was more & that I didn’t have to have every single faux finish known to mankind in my house. Thank goodness. The walls were starting to close in because of all of the layers of paint.
