You’ll never hear Martha say it

I just had the Alfredo sauce from the Olive Garden. My brother got it from a copycat recipe somewhere. It was amazing, much better than the Alfredo sauce that I usually make. You’ll never hear Martha Stewart say it, but copycat recipes are a good thing.

Back to school

When I went to college, I don’t think that decorating dorm rooms was the trend it is now. If it had been, maybe I would have been more excited to start school. So to make up for my dorm room decorating deprivation, (yes that’s the technical term), every year I look through the back to school things & see what is new.

Nature: Yes, wicker baskets, greens & chocolate browns all seem to be big in dorm room decor this year. Along with plush rugs & even fake plants. This may not seem like the obvious choice for a dorm room, which is why it’s so cool. Yes, your room may smell like dirty sweat socks, but you can just say it’s part of the jungle ambiance.

“Real Furniture”: I’m seeing less of the particle board furniture, & more particle board furniture that looks like real furniture, whether it’s white or actually looks like wood. I even came across a vanity table for a dorm room, that could probably pull double duty as a small desk.

Glam: Dorm rooms are looking a lot more coordinated & luxurious, they even have desk chairs of every color. I’m seeing a lot of high threadcount sheets, & even headboards & nightstands. This makes a small space look bigger, a dorm feel like home, & a disorganized space feel a little more cohesive.

It’s almost enough to make me want to go back to school, but not quite.

Indoor Garage Sale

I’m not allowed to have garage sales on my street. Well, this isn’t true, technically I am allowed, but I live on a dirt road & I doubt that anyone would show up. So, instead of purging my house of clutter, it tends to just sit. That’s the good thing about garage sales, a lot of motivation to get everything that you don’t need or like out of your house.

Last Saturday, I saw a sign that said indoor garage sale. I didn’t go because I didn’t want to traipse through someone’s house & try to figure out what was for sale & what wasn’t. I applauded their ingenuity though because they saved themselves an entire step of having to put things out on their lawn & then carry the leftovers back inside. I was thrilled to learn about video classifieds at listasaurus.

Listasaurus is a free classifieds site where you can buy or sell anything from jewelry to patio furniture. The really cool part is that they even pay you to list your classified, unlike most places that make you pay. The best feature is that you can even include a video ad, which I’ve never seen before. This really helps get the feeling of the product across to the consumers. I think the getting paid part will really motivate me to have a virtual indoor garage sale & get rid of all of the clutter.

Well, I know what i’m doing this weekend

I think my all time favorite craft project was making marble magnets. I liked it so much that I even started gluing the glass marbles that you get in dollar stores, to things like salad bowls. Then I had to stop the obsession. However, today I saw instructions on how to make jewelry out of these, & the obsession is now back. I’m jonesing to get to a dollar store & get to work. (Note: The word Jonesing comes from a Gilmore Girls episode, I’m not sure if it is actually a word, or if I used it correctly. Proceed with caution when copying my vocabulary).
