When I went to college, I don’t think that decorating dorm rooms was the trend it is now. If it had been, maybe I would have been more excited to start school. So to make up for my dorm room decorating deprivation, (yes that’s the technical term), every year I look through the back to school things & see what is new.
Nature: Yes, wicker baskets, greens & chocolate browns all seem to be big in dorm room decor this year. Along with plush rugs & even fake plants. This may not seem like the obvious choice for a dorm room, which is why it’s so cool. Yes, your room may smell like dirty sweat socks, but you can just say it’s part of the jungle ambiance.
“Real Furniture”: I’m seeing less of the particle board furniture, & more particle board furniture that looks like real furniture, whether it’s white or actually looks like wood. I even came across a vanity table for a dorm room, that could probably pull double duty as a small desk.
Glam: Dorm rooms are looking a lot more coordinated & luxurious, they even have desk chairs of every color. I’m seeing a lot of high threadcount sheets, & even headboards & nightstands. This makes a small space look bigger, a dorm feel like home, & a disorganized space feel a little more cohesive.
It’s almost enough to make me want to go back to school, but not quite.
