It’s fall which means HGTV has totally changed their lineup. There are very few shows that this channel seems to really hold onto. Then, those shows are subject to new hosts, sometimes several times a season. However, I’m a home improvement junky so I just keep watching.
“Find Your Style” is hosted by Karen from “Design Remix”. I haven’t been able to find any news about “Design Remix”, so hopefully it’s coming back. The premise of “Find Your Style” is that Karen helps people ummm find their style. The cool part of the show is that the homeowner’s go shopping & put the room together by themselves. However, I think that most people can do this on a budget. Karen has great energy as usual, & I’m glad I watched the show, but I won’t be tuning in regularly. I’d really rather watch “Design Remix”.

It’s no secret that I think that I’m a princess. This also means that my home is a castle, & that I decorate accordingly. In castles, there are always family portraits painted in oil & hung in the hallway. Of course, I don’t have that, although I do have a hallway & a family.
So I was happy to discover Paint Your Life that specializes in portrait painting. All you have to do is upload a photo, & they will paint the portrait in oil. What I really like about this company is that they send you a picture of the painting before they ship the painting. This way you can review it & ask for modifications. Their talented artists can paint everything from landscapes, pets, & even portraits. I was surprised at how inexpensive these paintings are, especially after looking through all of the different paintings of work they have done. They are very lifelike looking & high quality. Plus, they cost about as much as some prints. This is a great way to personalize your art work & make your room unique. It’s definitely a conversation piece. It will help give any home the feeling of a real castle.

We’ve all heard of writers block, but I’m going through painter’s block. I sit down to paint & all I can think of is I’m not good enough. Normally when I paint, I don’t think at all, I just paint. That’s why it’s called painting & not thinking.
I am just intimidated by all the good art that is out there. Before, it’s always been my philosophy that it’s the process not the result. So I’m not van Gogh, the important thing is that I paint. Not so that I’ll have something pretty to hang on the wall, but so I’ll be happier because I’m being creative. If the painting turns out well, then that’s just an added bonus. I’m trying to figure out some ways to combat this if anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

One of the best things about my house is it’s location on the side of a mountain. Sadly, I’m so used to being surrounded by beauty that I tend to forget about it. I’m always surprised when people come to visit & they can’t stop looking out the windows. It’s just become commonplace to me.
Too often I stay inside & just work. I’m not one for hiking, that’s a lot of work, so I miss out on a lot. The house was built here specifically for it’s location & I don’t enjoy it enough. I really need some fresh air. I focus on wanting to go on elaborate vacations & forget that I already live in a really neat place.
There are several beautiful places around where I could go on a picnic, & just enjoy being outside. The great thing about Forman&Field is that they have really nice picnic baskets, & even a cheese hamper that you can get delivered right to your house. They have amazing food to be delivered in the UK such as tarts, smoke salmon & even caviar. These hampers are really incredible & definitely a way to celebrate life. A nice picnic basket would definitely get me outside.

Most people take some kind of home ec class where they learn to use a sewing machine. I did the same, & I basically learned how to sew a straight line, & nothing more. However, it has made it possible for me to complete the following projects:
- Curtains, not as intimidating as it sounds. This is an inexpensive way to create custom window treatments. You can pick whatever fabric you want & then either sew a pocket on the top or just use clip rings to hang them.
- Scarves. I’ve made a lot of these lately. It’s so nice to be able to choose any fabric I want, no matter how expensive. I wear these in my hair. I’ve seen them sold from $8 & up, & I made ten hair scares for less than $3.
- Quilts. In my area, when someone gets married the family makes a quilt & displays it at the reception. So, I have learned to just sew strips of fabric together to form a quilt.
I can sew a straight line & that’s pretty much it. However, even that skill really does come in handy.
