Blast you Rob

Last night’s episode of “Design Star” had me torn. The challenge was to decorate a room using only things found at the dollar store. The rooms came out surprisingly well. Scott was sent home because his room looked like a supermarket.

Then it came down to either Sparkle Josh or Adriana to be have their show canceled. I was torn because these were two of my favorite personalities. Adriana was eliminated but I hope she finds her American Dream. Blast Rob for doing so well. The only way that he could be a good show host was if the concept of the show was “run up & kick the show host in the shin”. I would watch that.

Garage Sailing

We went garage sale-ing again. I don’t know if that is the proper vernacular, or a term we just use in Utah. A friend of a friend thought that we were going to some kind of boat, as in sailing.

There wasn’t a lot to choose from, I thought there would be more sales, but I guess with school starting everyone is really busy. We did pick up an office chair. Office chairs are kind of tricky. I’ve bought them on clearance & got a $200 chair, but the back of the chair was a little slanted so it’s basically called the “chair of death” because everyone hates it. Well now we have a new replacement for the “chair of death” & it isn’t slanty, so hopefully it won’t earn any nicknames. So I guess it was a productive garage sail after all.

Work in Progress

My family built our own house, & so it’s always been a work in progress, even after we moved in, especially the kitchen. We started out with the bare minimum, we didn’t have a lot of cabinets so we had to keep our dishes on a bookshelf. This was especially unfortunate when the bookshelf broke, along with all of our dishes. Finally, we got new dishes & cabinets, the kitchen is finally functional, but it’s still not finished.

Now it needs a conversation piece, that will really set it apart from other people’s kitchens. I think range hoods would work nicely. I was looking at Futuro Futuro & they have a selection like I’ve never seen. They even have these hi-tech looking island mounted hoods. I love the fact that they are made in Italy, so it gives me bragging rites. The stainless steel & glass really brings a contemporary feeling. It’s definitely something I need to finally finish the kitchen.

The opposite of claustrophobia

Yes, I’m scared of some peoples houses. I absolutely hate high ceilings. I don’t know why. It’s more than the fact that I think that it’s hard to dust & it might be a colossal waste of space. High ceilings just make me feel very uncomfortable. It’s like the opposite of claustrophobia.

Unfortunately, most new houses have high ceilings. It’s not so bad that I run screaming every time I enter someone’s home. I just probably wouldn’t buy a house with such ceiling. Maybe it’s a new disorder that they’ll name after me, has anyone else experienced this?

Fishbowl

fishbowl.jpg I love houses & apartments with lots of windows. This equals a lot of light, which is hard to come by in Utah during winter. However, I also have this weird habit that as soon as it’s dark, all of the windows need to be covered. My mom is the same way. So, it can be quite the investment to have window treatments for all of those windows. One of my new favorite things are roman shades. They are a lot simpler than curtains. Roman Shades just have a more contemporary feel.

I’ve seen them on a lot of decorating shows lately, & these shades can be quite expensive. The prices & selections at Justblinds.com are great. They’ve been in business since 1999 & they went from a small home business to one of the largest independent window covering shops in the United States. That’s quite the inspiring story. So to recap, I want to live in a fishbowl with window treatments, is that asking so much?
