Getting rid of decorating anxiety

I just bought a new duvet cover that I love. However, it just wasn’t working my room. It was working in the “1990 let’s mix patterns shabby chic way”, but not in the elegant way that I had hoped for. In fact, the room started to feel a little bit like it was closing in on me. Here are a few ways that I remedied this.

1. Resisted the impulse to buy. Suddenly, I felt like I needed new drapes & a new rug to match the new duvet. Instead I tried to work with what I already have.

2. Gave myself time to adjust to change. I really don’t deal well with change, even in decorating.

3. Cleaned the room to see if it felt less cluttered.

4. Edited. Took out all of the extras such as the accessories & even the rug. The room now feels a lot lighter & less cluttered because it is!

I really should have titled this post “The duvet that causes problems”. I’ll have to live with it for awhile & see how I feel. This may have been another impulse buy where I tried to save money.

The New Command Central

Most of the design shows I have seen have advocated clearing the clutter off the fridge. What designers don’t understand is that those post it notes are basically the family’s version of “command central”. It’s how parents know where everyone needs to be & how they will get there. Not only does this look really cluttered, it’s not the most effective system for organization. I once left an important note for a roommate & she didn’t find it until three days later.

This was why I was so thrilled to learn about Famundo. Famundo is a cutting edge way to get organized. Plus, it’s free. There are two versions of Famundo:

  • Family Version: Includes a calendar, message board, photo album, file storage & much more.
  • Famundo for Organizations: Great way for schools & other organizations to get their messages & schedules to whoever needs them.

This software looks very easy & fun to use & who thought I would ever say that about organization? This will definitely help your fridge & life be a lot less cluttered. It’s the new version of command central.

How to put on a duvet cover the right way

All of my swearing didn’t help me get the king duvet cover on my down comforter. So I decided to look around online & see how the pro’s do this. It was simpler than I thought & only took me a few seconds once I knew how.

1. Turn the duvet cover inside out.

2. Put your hands in the corners at the bottom of the duvet cover.

3. Grab the comforter, flipping the duvet over it.

4. Close the duvet.

Well, their way was easier & I was able to accomplish this without any help. However, there weren’t any new swear words created, so what is the point?

How to put on a duvet cover the Sarakastic way

I’ve known for awhile now that duvet covers were an excellent way to change the look of a room for not a lot of money. However, for some reason I’ve been scared of all things duvet. I was very adamant on this stance until I accidentally got pen ink on my $200 down comforter. Then I decided it was time to overcome my fear of trying to put a cover on a king size duvet by myself. I’m a princess though, how hard could it be? Here are some steps to put on a duvet cover the Sarakastic way.

1. Forgo ironing. No one will notice the wrinkles, besides the fact that ironing is not fun.

2. Try to scrunch up the duvet.

3. Invent new swear words. Repeat.

4. Decide that it will be easier to just tear a bigger hole in the duvet cover & then duct tape it back together.

Your home’s first impression

I watch “Curb Appeal” a lot. Actually, I just watch HGTV a lot. Anyways, the premise of the show is how to give your house more curb appeal. I’m always amazed at how expensive these makeovers can be. Some of them cost more than I would spend on my mortgage.

However, whether the budget is small or large the designers usually advocate a new front door. Just changing out an old door from the 1970′s can really spruce up a house. I was looking at Hardwood Door & Bevel & their doors are truly breathtaking. Custom Wood Doors are even an option at this site if you can’t find exactly what you want. These are some of the nicest doors that I’ve ever seen & seem to be of very high quality.

They say that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. A front door is the first impression that your house gives off, make sure that it’s the right one.
