This year the set of the Oprah show was uncharacteristically modern. Lots of frosted glass, a neutral color palette of mostly white, with stainless steel accents. This style is perfect for someone who likes clean lines and modern furniture. It is also a great idea for a renter who can’t change the color of the walls or carpet. It is easy to decorate a bedroom inspired by the Oprah on a budget. For an Oprah Inspired bedroom you will need:
5. Neutral color palette: Keep everything white, the carpet, the furniture, even the walls. That’s right, painting isn’t even necessary for this one. No wonder we love Oprah.
4. Furniture: Use furniture with sleek lines. Oprah loves to read, so add in a comfortable chair for all of your Oprah’s book club books. This bed has a retail value of $1049 and is on sale for $619. I choose it because of the color, fabric and the shape will lend a slightly softer air to the room. For nightstands try white or beech wood stacking cubes. This will continue the square theme. The chair was chosen for the modern element of the stainless steel. It retails for $545 but is currently only $219.
3. Accessories: Keep accessories to a minimum. The accessories you use should be large in scale and have a purpose. Use stainless steel lamps and lighting fixtures. Try making your own modern art. Just take a large white canvas and brush stripes of creams and beiges for an inexpensive piece of modern art. This acrylic lamp adds a touch of class for only $49.99.

2. Windows: Try frosting your windows instead of curtains for a sleek modern look. This will keep the square, clean, geometric lines of the windows and make them a focal point, but they will still fit in with the design.
1. Fabric: Use soft cotton sheets and down comforters in white, with big fluffy white pillows. This striped comforter retails at $129.99 and is only $49.99.

To achieve Dharma and Greg’s style is easy and inexpensive. Use crafts, arts, tapestries. This fun, energetic look is great for a kitchen. For the Dharma and Greg kitchen you will need:1. Painted cabinets: Try a two tone effect, white doors with aqua trim. Or white upper cabinets and aqua lower cabinets.
2. Art: Try making a collage, or hanging up postcards from your travels. Hang frames on your cabinets. Turn your walls into art by doing a yellow color wash to imitate the yellow stucco that Dharma and Greg have.
3. Magnets: Cover your entire fridge with them. It’s a great alternative if you don’t like your fridge. I have made a few set of marble magnets. You can see the idea by clicking here. Basically you just get a bag of those flat clear pebbles that you find at dollar stores. Then you pick out a picture or word you like and glue it to the back and attach a magnet. These set of quote magnets are only $14.95 marked down from $19.95. Click on the picture for more information.

4. Accessories: Dharma & Greg have a Mona Lisa curtain hanging in their doorway. If you can’t find this try a bead curtain. This one is a great deal at only $7.95.

Long before the concept of “bringing the outdoors in” there were poor college students who would use lawn chairs in their living rooms. It wasn’t a style element as much as a necessity, and better then sitting on a cardboard box. I looked at these chairs and immediately thought of the TV show “Dharma & Greg”. This chair takes something very traditional, an Adirondack chair and makes it funky by using a bright color. Make it even more “Dharmy” by using it in your living room for extra seating. Then use “Dharmy” in sentences like it is a real word. This chair would great on a patio, by a pool, or even in your home. It’s retail price is $150.00 and it’s on sale for $89.99. This Adirondack chair is available in two shades of green, white, red, and two shades of blue. There are even matching tables or ottomans for $29.99. Click on the picture for more information.
