Turn your home into a castle on a budget

I miss the days when the HGTV show Design Remix was on everyday.  I can still find reruns & new episodes on early in the morning or on Saturdays. The premise is that the design show comes in & just reuses everything hiding in closets or the garage to redo a room.  They have a $50 budget & some paint.  The results are fantastic.

There has been some controversy on whether this show “stocks” the garages beforehand.  People always seem to have gorgeous bolts of silk fabric even though they don’t sew.  However, I was just watching an episode where Karen couldn’t find a lot of materials so she had to go over budget.  I guess that means that Design Remix is real.

Sleep on it is an HGTV show that lets house hunters spend the night in a home they are considering buying. In the morning they have to make a decision. Will they buy it or pass it by?

I think it’s a great idea because they get to take the house for a test drive. Buyers get to see things like can they sleep through the noise of a nearby street? (They never can) I think it’s a novel idea. I don’t know if I’d be brave enough to try it. It would just feel weird to be living in someone else’s house with all of their things. Plus, I’d be mildly afraid that the place was haunted. Would you try it?

It used to be that when there was nothing on I turned to HGTV & got some decorating tips.  Now whenever I turn on HGTV it’s just another house show about people trying to sell their homes & taking big losses.  This used to be fun to watch, people making lots of cash.  Now, it’s depressing. First time home buyers can’t buy houses, sellers can’t sell their houses.  I don’t know if they were effected by the writer’s strike or they just decided to make the same show 20,000 times.  I miss HGTV.

I would love to be posting about the new/old version of Trading Spaces. However, instead I have to post about how Douglas Wilson is a jerk. I was wondering about how they would bring Paige Davis back. Would they just act like she’d never been forced off the show? Would they just pretend that she’d been in the bathroom for years on end? From what I’ve seen of episode previews it seems like most of the designers are really glad to have Paige back. I think she brings some life & order back to the show. She says what the people at home are thinking “Should we really put 2,000 holes in the drywall?”

Doug seemed to keep making snide remarks last night. He said he wasn’t sure he was glad Paige was back because she always messed up the projects. He didn’t seem to be too happy to be talking to her at the reveal either. It could’ve been like a teasing thing, but it felt more like being a bully. Maybe he wanted her job. Either way, Douglas Wilson is a jerk. Did anyone else see this? What are your thoughts?
