What to say when a design show goes bad

I’m so codependant that I hate watching the reveals on design shows when the room is awful. My heart really goes out to the families that try to put on a brave face. Some examples of this are:

I had a great experience. I don’t even care about my room, everyone on the show was so nice.

It’s what we signed up for.

That’s different. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.

I’ll live with it for awhile & see how it feels.

Either way, you still have hay glued to your walls but at least you didn’t scream on national TV.

Design Words that Aren’t Really Words

Here are just a few words that I often hear on design shows that aren’t words. Everyone says them like they are words. That doesn’t make them words. A few of these are in the dictionary but they shouldn’t be.

Functionality: It’s just function. Functionality is just silliness I don’t care what the dictionary says.

Napkin Ring Holders: Napkin holders. Napkin rings. Napkin ring holders is just redundant. Redundant. (See how I said redundant twice? It made me laugh).

Homeownership: Again, a person is a homeowner. It implies that they own a house. Homeownership is just redundant redundant.

What words do you hear on design shows that aren’t really words?

Look what the dollar store had

HPIM0504.JPG

I was at the dollar store & saw all of this furry yarn. Then I tried to keep myself from jumping up & down. I’d never knit with it before because I hate when I spend more on knitting than I do on food. So my mom & I decided to make scarves for Christmas gifts. I decided to use a knitting loom because we have tons of family & not a lot of time. Besides the fact that I’ve been stressed out lately & wrapping yarn around a peg is about all that I can handle

I’ve been looking around & there are even different stitches that can be done on the knitting loom, but most of the patterns are smarter than I am. So in the end I decided to ignore the fact that the dollar store also had very cute ready made scarves for sell & hopefully everyone will be happy with their handmade presents.

To share or not to share

At every potluck or dinner party there is that one person who can best be classified as the “non recipe sharer”. This is usually the person with the best dish. Everyone else is just rattling off their recipes but when it comes to this person’s turn to share they just blatantly say no. I understand why. It’s their signature dish. They don’t want twenty other people to show up with it at the next potluck.

I feel the same way whenever someone asks to borrow my bright yellow jacket. They are welcome to any of my traditional coats, but this one is just mine. However, it just seems weird & rude to decline someone’s request for a recipe. Have you noticed this at potlucks? Is there a polite way to decline a recipe request? I guess inventing pumpkin pie popcorn has me philosophical about recipe discussion :P

Pumpkin Pie Popcorn Recipe

Bet you can’t say Pumpkin Pie Popcorn three times fast. Ok, so you are probably thinking that you are at the wrong blog because I don’t cook. However, I can make popcorn. The other day I wondered “What would happen if put cinnamon on popcorn?”. The answer is “It would be very yummy”.

Ok so this recipe doesn’t have any pumpkin in it & it’s not really a recipe because I have no idea how to measure a dash or a smidgen. Plus, this may be one of those things that only I find good & everyone else thinks is disgusting. So, proceed with caution. Ok, I’ll stop discouraging you from trying this now. Feel free to share your yummy popcorn recipes in the comments.

Popped popcorn

Whatever amount of melted butter you usually use

4 dashes of cinnamon

2 dashes of nutmeg

You can either mix the spices into the butter, or just sprinkle them on top of the popcorn. The best part is that it makes the house smell like pumpkin pie.
