I’m lucky that I don’t live in NYC because my apartment would probably cost thousands of dollars per month there even though it’s on the small side. However, I still find it to be slightly claustrophobic even though my furniture is so simple. I’ve found that if my windows are clean and I get rid of any clutter on the counters it immediately helps. How do you help your apartment to feel bigger?
What Would You Do With a Yard?
This is something that I ask myself a lot because I’m an apartment dweller. I know that a lot of homeowners hate having to take care of a backyard. Instead, I even wish that I had extra acreage. The first thing I’d do is figure out how to make everything in the yard more useful and sustainable. This is because water is at such a premium here. I want to have a vegetable garden instead of lots of unnecessary flowers.
I may even consider getting Chickens for sale. I never thought of this until I saw a reality TV mom do it and then I wanted to investigate Chicken feed and Chicken coops for sale. While visiting the Californiahatery.com site I learned some fun facts about chickens. I can choose between chickens that lay white eggs and ones that lay brown eggs. They also have rare types of chickens like Black Silkies. There’s a guarantee that the chickens will get to you safely. It just looks like so much fun especially if you have kids although I’m sure that it’s lots of responsibility too.
Time for a Change
The best and worst thing about living in an apartment is that I can’t make huge changes. However, it’s nice to not have renovations on my mind and as part of my budget. The maintenance is usually someone else’s problem so there’s another plus.
My big decorating project this year is that I’d like a new color scheme in both of my bathrooms. I also want to add some wall decals. I want mural versions that cost about $50-$70 but I think it will help with the fact that I don’t have any natural light in either of these spaces. I would love to be able to have gray walls. However, since I already own all of my furniture that I need for this small space I also can’t bring gray in there either. Since I started out with mostly browns using gray throw pillows or art doesn’t make sense. However, the bathrooms are blank slates where jut new shower curtains, art, towels, and toothbrush holders, along with bath mats is my only chance to finally get this trendy color in my home. I just don’t know if doing the same scheme in two bathrooms will be too similar. I could pick up different accent colors I guess but I still want gray to be the feature. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
How to Make it as a Decor Blogger
I read a lot of the top decor blogs but haven’t achieved this same status myself at least yet. Part of this has to do with the fact that I live in an apartment so I can’t make all of the dramatic renovations that other bloggers can. I can’t even use paint really unless it’s on my furniture.
The other thing that amazes me is how photo rich they all are. They seem to just take a lot of pictures from design magazines to prove their point of view. Sure, this makes sense from a design standpoint and it does enrich the posts. However, in most cases it just isn’t legal; even if you credit the source. This really has me stumped as to how to take it to the next level while obeying all copyright laws because most stock photos don’t show the latest trends and projects.
Home Resolutions
I always think that I have so much work to do around my apartment. Then I watch the show Hoarders on A&E and instead I just have a total feeling of gratitude at my situation and my life. My house is pretty clean in comparison. The housework I need to do would just take a few minutes instead of days or months like the people on the show. It’s really helped me to gain a new perspective.
I do think that it’s important that these people get several different kinds of help. They work with a therapist and sometimes get care after the show. Their family and friends help to work through their issues too to take care of the underlying problem. Then the most dramatic part is when the 1-800-GOT-JUNK trucks pull in. You can call them if you need Houston Junk removal and they are available in lots of other areas too. There’s a team of people in blue shirts who go to work getting the house cleaned up. Some of them are even notable players on the show each week. I don’t envy their jobs but I am so glad that there is help out there for people in these situations. I can’t imagine literally having to dig myself out of a problem.
