Spring Cleaning

I hate spring cleaning but I love the feeling of it being done. Sometimes there’s chores that I don’t even know they’re bothering me until they are finished. I just steam cleaned the carpets last weekend and I’m amazed at how much better the carpet looks. It’s fluffier and has its spring back.

I was looking through The Steam Team website and found a lot of points to why it’s necessary to clean carpets that I didn’t even know about. They help with all kinds of cleaning even round rock tx water damage situations. Sure, I knew that carpet could hold a lot of odors in it. I didn’t think I had a problem with this because I don’t have kids or pets. However, it says that carpet can even absorb cooking odors. However, since I have a great room design it makes sense that my living room carpet would trap smells. I’m definitely going to have this become part of my regular spring cleaning schedule.

Design Trend: Nail head Trim

My favorite new design trend has to be nail head trend. We just used to see this on basic upholstery as trim. Not it’s much more of an accent. You can find it around lots of lamp shades. My favorite use is to create a pattern with it on a buffet. It does take a lot of work to actually do this yourself so I’m hoping that the trend becomes so big that it becomes cheap on the mass market so I won’t have to try it as a DIY project. What’s your favorite new design trend?

Design Trend: Sheepskin

Probably the biggest home decor trend for flooring for the last few years has been sheepskin rugs. They add modern style to any room. However, when I looked through the Comfy Sheepskin site I realized that there are many more ways to use this material in a variety of sheepskin products .

This isn’t just for home decor. There are custom sheepskin seat covers. I would love to try these in my car because the upholstery is stained and it’s not that comfortable either. New seat covers would definitely fix that. It takes a few days for these pieces to be made so it will fit your bucket seats exactly. I also didn’t know that there were so many color options available. Usually I just see it in white. I guess when a material becomes popular there are always innovators out there finding new ways to use it.

Flooring Options

One thing that always interests me about interior design is what everyone else in the world is doing. I was going through the Robert Inwood Flooring site today and saw the selection of new flooring. There seems to be a wider range of colors than what I’m used to seeing.

The company is located in Wellington New Zealand and also sells vinyl flooring, tile flooring, and secondhand carpet. They also put a big emphasis on safety and if you’ve ever gotten new carpet installed you know how important this is. Plus, they give free quotes. The other thing this company does that I’ve never heard of is 24/7 installation which will come in handy if you run a business. They even move your furniture out and back in for free. It’s nice to see an emphasis on service no matter which country it’s in.

How to Make it as a Decor Blogger

I read a lot of the top decor blogs but haven’t achieved this same status myself at least yet. Part of this has to do with the fact that I live in an apartment so I can’t make all of the dramatic renovations that other bloggers can. I can’t even use paint really unless it’s on my furniture.
The other thing that amazes me is how photo rich they all are. They seem to just take a lot of pictures from design magazines to prove their point of view. Sure, this makes sense from a design standpoint and it does enrich the posts. However, in most cases it just isn’t legal; even if you credit the source. This really has me stumped as to how to take it to the next level while obeying all copyright laws because most stock photos don’t show the latest trends and projects.
